A new terminal area is on the way

New experiences await in the heart of Copenhagen Airport. We are expanding and redeveloping the terminal area between gates B and C, creating the framework for an even better journey through the airport of the future.

Reshaping the heart of the airport

  • The terminal expansion will be a direct extension of the existing area between gates B and C.
  • The baggage reclaim area will double in size, with 5 new baggage belts added.
  • A new baggage sorting basement will be excavated, and a 2.5-kilometre baggage system will be installed.
  • Passport control will be upgraded with much more space and divided into separate departure and arrival areas.
  • The shopping and transit area will expand by 13,000 square metres with wider walkways, more daylight and over 30 new shops and restaurants.

Architecture: The journey begins beneath the cloud

A ceiling shaped like a large, soft cloud welcomes you into our new terminal space. The cloud floats above restaurants, shops, walkways and seating areas, bringing all functions together in a clear, bright and inviting design.

The cloud is complemented by a green garden that cuts through all levels of the building, all the way down to the baggage reclaim area on the ground floor. This brings nature and daylight indoors, setting the tone for a calm airport experience where you feel encouraged to linger.

From bus gate to construction site

Our construction project involves not only new areas but also a major transformation of the existing passenger zone between gates B and C. The area opened in 1984 as gates for buses and also houses a tower, Apron Tower, from where aircraft stands have been coordinated.

However, the area has changed its function over the years. Since the 1990s, the number of passengers at Copenhagen Airport has doubled, while the number of flights remains the same as back then. Alongside this development, the old bus gate area has evolved from a simple waiting zone filled with upholstered chairs into a busy main corridor that connects the airport.

That is why we are carrying out a major upgrade of the former bus gate area, integrating new and old into a cohesive terminal space. One of the biggest changes is the demolition of Apron Tower to ensure daylight and wide walkways in the terminal of the future.
