Emissions from own operations

Copenhagen Airports operates buildings, vehicles and equipment at Copenhagen Airport and Roskilde Airport. To conduct our operations, we consume energy in the form of electricity, district heating and fossil fuels. In consuming this energy, we are responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, which drives climate change.

Our building operations consume significant amounts of electricity, district heating and natural gas. In order to reduce emissions from these sources, we are renovating our buildings to be more energy efficient while phasing out our use of natural gas in favour of district heating and electric heat pumps.

To decarbonise our electricity supply, we have installed solar panels that cover approximately 4.5% of the electricity we consume.Additionally, we have entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Vattenfall linked to two wind farms in Jutland, specifically Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd, which supplies us with renewable energy certificates corresponding to the remaining 95.5% of our electricity consumption.

The use of fossil fuels in our vehicles and equipment also contributes significantly to our carbon footprint. To reduce these emissions, we introduced HVO biodiesel for our diesel-powered vehicles in 2025, and we are continuously working to replace our conventional vehicles and motorised equipment with electric alternatives.
