July set new record at Copenhagen Airport

More than 3.3 million passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in July, making it the busiest month in the airport’s 100-year history. On the peak travel day, as many as 119,000 passengers travelled through the airport. Spain and Greece topped the list of this summer’s most popular holiday and charter destinations, while several long-haul routes also experienced significant growth.

Copenhagen Airport has just ended the busiest month ever in the history of the airport. In July, as many as 3,330,000 passengers travelled through its terminals, an increase of four per cent compared to last July, which held the previous record as the busiest travel month.

“We are very pleased with the high travel activity we saw in July. Many Danes prioritise family time during their holidays, when they can travel together. At the same time, many international guests choose Denmark as their destination. This development strengthens both aviation and tourism, and we are seeing how Copenhagen Airport contributes to the growth of the experience economy – both as a gateway to Denmark and as a starting point for travel around the world,” says Chief Commercial Officer Peter Krogsgaard of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Sunday 13 July was the busiest day ever at Copenhagen Airport. On that day, 119,000 passengers travelled through the terminals, surpassing last year’s record of 116,000 passengers. This makes the day the busiest in the history of the airport.

Sun holidays and charter flights dominate
In July, Spain maintained its position as the preferred sun holiday destination for the fifth consecutive year. As usual, it was the routes to the classic holiday destinations Malaga, Mallorca and Barcelona that were the most popular among summer holidaymakers. A total of 284,000 passengers flew to and from Spain in July. Apart from Spain, charter traffic was mainly bound for Greece, where the holiday islands of Crete and Rhodes were once again the most sought-after destinations.

The routes to Italy, France and Turkey were also in high demand and among the most popular summer destinations. London was again the most popular city destination, with Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Paris also ranking high on the list.

Long-haul routes experiencing growth
The long-haul routes also saw growth in July. At the top of the list, flights to and from the US had 157,000 passengers, an increase of 10 per cent compared with the same month last year. Next on the list was the United Arab Emirates with 42,000 passengers, which is 25 per cent more than in the same period in 2024. The routes to New York, Dubai and Doha were the most popular, followed by Nuuk, Toronto and Bangkok.

“Long-haul routes play an important role for both tourism and business. Growth in routes like New York and Dubai is a sign that Denmark is well connected to the rest of the world and that we have strong international accessibility. At the same time, it testifies to the fact that we are an interesting destination for many foreign passengers who gladly travel far to spend the summer in Denmark, and that is really positive,” says Peter Krogsgaard.

A total of 9.5 million passengers are expected to travel through Copenhagen Airport during the three summer months.
