CPH reduces waiting times

In week 22 (the last week of May), the average waiting time for security screening at Copenhagen Airport was 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

A targeted domestic programme which includes measures such as increased staffing at the security checkpoint has shortened waiting times at Copenhagen Airport. In week 22,  travellers queued an average of 4 minutes and 12 seconds for security screening, seen over the week as a whole. During peak hours from 5:00-9:00 a.m. and 3:00-7:00 p.m., the average waiting time was 4 minutes and 31 seconds, seen over the week as a whole.

These new figures for waiting times come after daily commuters expressed dissatisfaction about longer waits at the security checkpoint following the merger of domestic and international traffic earlier in the year. In response, Copenhagen Airport launched a number of steps on 11 May to improve the travel experience for passengers.

"As an airport, we serve all of Denmark, and it is very important to us that all travellers are satisfied. Consequently, we take the dissatisfaction among commuters very seriously. More staff and more lanes for security screening are only some of the elements of the overall plan to improve the travel experience of commuters," said Henrik Peter Jørgensen, VP, Communications at Copenhagen Airport.

0.4% of travellers waited more than 20 minutes
During the week, 73.61% of the 159,592 travellers at Copenhagen Airport reached the security checkpoint in less than 5 minutes, and 99.21% in less than 15 minutes. The longest measured waiting time during peak hours was 14 minutes and 25 seconds. However, on Monday, 25 May from 10:30-11:00 a.m., 633 travellers had to wait up to 20 minutes and 31 seconds – which was the only period during the week when the waiting time was longer than 15 minutes.

Over the coming period, Copenhagen Airport will publish weekly statistics of waiting times as part of the new domestic programme, which also includes a closer dialogue with domestic travellers and the commuter associations. You can read more about the domestic programme here.
