Travel safely through Copenhagen Airport

As a passenger traveling through Copenhagen Airport, there’s several differences you will see. A set of new guidelines have been issued by The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and apply to all European airports. Some of the guidelines might differ from what applies in your country of origin. We have created a guide that will help you travel safely and easily through Copenhagen Airport keeping the new guidelines in mind.

At home

  • Stay home if you feel ill
  • Check-in online when possible
  • Arrive in good time as things may take a little longer
  • Wear your medical face mask and make sure to bring several for the journey. It is recommended by the Danish Health Authorities to change the face mask every three to four hours

Protective gear at the airport

  • From June 15, 2020 it is compulsory to wear a medical mask throughout the terminals
  • Wear a medical mask from the moment you enter the terminals, onboard the plane, and until you leave again upon arrival
  • It’s your sole responsibility to carry enough medical masks for your journey
  • Extra medical masks can be bought at 7-Eleven before security check between Terminal 2 and 3. Additionally, mobile sales unit will be placed by entrances outside the airport terminals
  • Children under the age of 6, and people with a valid medical condition and with a valid medical certificate, are exempted from wearing a face mask
  • The new guidelines are valid until August 29 2020

Parking, pickups and drop offs

  • You can arrive safely by car to the airport

  • Upon arrival you may use your mobile, contact free device to scan your QR code by the gate
  • We ask you to kindly remember that only people with a valid ticket and purpose may be in the terminals and thus please stay outside of the terminals when picking a loved one up

At the airport

  • Wear a medical mask
  • Maintain social distancing of 1 meter
  • Follow government guidelines on health and hygiene measures 
  • Observe and follow the floor markings
  • Observe and follow the direction of flow
  • Keep your hands clean on the go and use the stationaries with hand sanitization located throughout the airport
  • Inform airport or airline crew if you are feeling ill during your travel
  • Enjoy your food and beverages sitting and resume using the face mask when you are done consuming food and beverages

At the security checkpoint

  • Prepare your liquids before you enter the checkpoint. You are allowed to bring 1 transparent and reclosable plastic bag with a maximum of 1 liter separated into 100 ml. cans
  • Hand sanitization cans exceeding 100 ml. (1 dl) are allowed. Please notice that the amount cannot exceed what the security personnel assesses as personal use

Airport personnel

  • The employees at the airport will also be using either a face mask or visor from June 15, 2020.
  • We encourage our business partners to ask their employees to do the same.
  • Employees at Airlines, handling companies and in stores will either wear face masks or visors.
  • In areas where it is not possible to comply with the health authorities' distance requirements, plexiglass shielding will be installed. This applies, for example, to check-in desks, restaurants, cafés, gates and at ticket offices.

Use of protective gear

Is it a requirement to wear a face mask at Copenhagen Airports?
 
  • Yes, Copenhagen Airport follows the European guidelines for safe travel. Therefore, everyone must wear a medical face mask in the terminals until you leave again after arrival. This is to reduce the risk of being infected or spreading the COVID-19 for both your own and others sake.
  • Children under the age of 6 are exempted from the rule.
Where can I get a face mask, if I don’t have one when I arrive at the airport? 
 
  • It is your responsibility to wear a face mask when entering the airport. Before your departure you can, for example, purchase it at a pharmacy. Remember to bring a enough face masks with you to cover the entire journey. The authorities recommend that you change the face mask every 3-4 hours.  
  • In terminal 1 and 2, you will be able to buy face masks at 7Eleven and you can also use a vending machine.  
Who should wear a face mask?
 
  • Everyone in the terminals must wear a face mask when you are traveling through the terminals, till you are on board the aircraft and until you leave the terminals again after arrival.
  • Children under the age of 6 do not have to wear a face mask.
  • There may be individuals who are exempted from wearing a face mask for medical reasons. We recommend that you bring a medical certificate.
  • Airport employees will also be using either a face mask or visor from June 15, 2020.

 

What happens if I do not wear a face mask when I arrive at CPH?
 
  • If you do not wear a face mask as you enter CPH you will be contacted by the airport personnel, who will guide to where you can buy one.
  • If you do not follow the guidance it will be a violation of the rules for conduct in the Airport and you will be asked to leave the terminals.
  • Copenhagen Airports will secure that it is possible to buy a face mask upon the arrival to the airport by public transport.
  • If you do not wear a face mask at boarding you risk being rejected entering the airport, as it is a demand from the airlines. Please contact your airline, if you have any questions regarding the use of medical mask on the flight.
Which kind of protective gear do the airport employees use? How does the airport employees align with the guidelines, when they are in contact with many different passengers and colleagues every day?
 
  • From 15 June 2020, employees at Copenhagen Airport must wear a visor when visiting the terminals, as it is an effective means of minimizing infection risk. When wearing a visor, it is also possible to see the facial mimics of the employees, which minimizes the risk of misunderstandings.
  • We encourage our business partners to ask their employees to do the same.
  • Employees at Airlines, handling companies and in stores will either wear medical masks or visors.

At the security check

May I bring liquid hand sanitization with me through the security check?
 
  • The rules have been adjusted, due to the authority’s advice for using alcohol-based hand sanitizer to reduce the risk of contamination. This means that you can bring alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you in containers larger than the normal 100 ml restriction. However, the amount should not exceed what can be considered your own needs during a specific journey, in the same way as rules for liquid medicine during a specific journey.
  • We have set up stationaries with hand sanitization situated both before and after the security check, as well as you will find stationaries distributed around the airport, for the use of both employees and passengers.
  • Apart from hand sanitization there are no other changes to the rules in the security check. For all other liquids, you can only bring a maximum of one bag of 1 liter with 100 ml. containers.

Arrival at Copenhagen Airport

May relatives accompany me to and from the airport?
 
  • Only passengers with a valid ticket, employees and authorities have access to the airport terminals. This means that farewell and / or welcomes must not take place inside the terminals. Instead, your relatives must wait outside the airport terminals, for example, the airport square, the parking houses or the like.
Will I have my temperature checked upon arrival at Copenhagen Airport?
 
  • No, we will not check your temperature upon arrival at Copenhagen Airport. However, some airlines do check passengers’ temperature. Please contact your airline with any questions.
Who should I contact if I experience symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival?
 
  • If you feel sick upon arrival we urge you to contact our airport personnel. Further, we urge you to follow the Danish Health Authorities’ recommendations concerning self-isolation and follow the 5 general tips to prevent the spread of COVID-19 which you can read about here.

COVID-19 test center

How does it work?
 
  • You do not need to book an appointment, it’s free of charge and it takes about 5 minutes.
  • Danish citizens may find their test result online at sundhed.dk within 1-2 days while foreign citizens will be contacted in the case of a positive COVID-19 test result.
  • In the case of a positive COVID-19 test result we refer to the Danish Health Authorities’ guidelines concerning self-isolation and trace of contact.
Where’s the test center located and what are the opening hours?
 
  • The test center is located outside the terminals 2 and 3 at “Lufthavnstorvet”.
  • The opening hours are every day from 9 am to 4 pm
How fast and where can I expect to receive the test results?
 
  • The test will take a couple of minutes to do.
  • Danish citizens may find their test result online at sundhed.dk within 1-2 days.
  • All foreign citizens will be contacted by the national Corona hotline. However, you will only be contacted in the event of a positive COVID-19 test result.
  • In the case of a positive COVID-19 test result we refer to the Danish Health Authorities’ guidelines concerning self-isolating and trace of contact.
Who can utilize the test center?
 
  • The test center at Copenhagen Airport is a voluntary offer targeted at arriving passengers – Danes and foreign citizens who wish to have the possibility to be tested for COVID-19.
  • The test center is mainly to be used by arriving Danes and foreign citizens. If you are traveling outside of Denmark or not a traveler, we refer to the other test centers provided by the Capital Region.
