Norwegian to launch flights to Las Vegas and the Caribbean
Norwegian is expanding its network of long-haul services out of Copenhagen. The airline will open three routes In November 2015, to Las Vegas and to Puerto Rico and St. Croix in the Caribbean.
At a well-attended press conference at Copenhagen Airport, Norwegian's CEO, Bjørn Kjos, announced the airline's new direct flights to Las Vegas and to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In addition, Norwegian will also offer flights to St. Croix in combination with Puerto Rico. St. Croix is part of the former Danish West Indies, now the U.S. Virgin Islands. A number of towns on St. Croix have Danish names, and the island still has many Danish historic sites.
Exciting destinations
The new routes will each have one weekly frequency, and the first flights will be in early November. Las Vegas will be a year-round route, while the two new Caribbean destinations will be winter-only destinations.
And according to Bjørn Kjos, there are more exciting destinations to come over time.
"Our long-haul route network is growing steadily," said Bjørn Kjos, emphasising that Norwegian will be deploying additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners on long-haul routes in the years ahead.
A nice birthday gift
Copenhagen Airport CEO, Thomas Woldbye, described the new Norwegian routes as a nice extra birthday gift.
"Copenhagen Airport turned 90 yesterday, and the new routes out of Copenhagen to the Caribbean and Las Vegas are a really nice extra birthday gift to the airport, and not least to passengers," said Thomas Woldbye.
West Indies beckoning
Karin Gert Nielsen, Managing Director Scandinavia, at the U.S. Virgin Islands Tourism Office is excited about Norwegian's new routes to be Caribbean:
"We are confident that Norwegian's weekly flights will help strengthen the ties between the U.S. Virgin Islands and Denmark, especially in light of the centenary of the sale of the islands to the United States coming up in 2017. We expect that Norwegian's new service will contribute greatly to an increase in tourism on the islands," said Karin Gert Nielsen.
Facts:
- Copenhagen-Puerto Rico will start on 6 November. A once-weekly service on Fridays. The route will be operated in the winter programme.
- Copenhagen-St. Croix will start on 6 November. A once-weekly service on Fridays in combination with Puerto Rico. The route will be operated in the winter programme.
- Copenhagen-Las Vegas will start on 10 November. A once-weekly service on Tuesdays. The route will be operated year round.
