Top fashion designers kickstart Copenhagen Fashion Week at the airport

With Copenhagen Fashion Week coming up this week Copenhagen Airport will be giving passengers an extraordinary fashion experience when three of Denmark's strongest designers present their ideas on the coming season's fashion trends.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is the talk of the town only a week before the Danish fashion industry kicks off this year's first Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Copenhagen Airport is warming up to the event by inviting three of Denmark's hottest fashion brands, Wood Wood, Baum und Pferdgarten and Anne Sofie Madsen to show their styles for spring and summer. The brands are presented at a special fashion universe under the theme "It's Fashion Week – Travel in style".

Denmark is world renowned as a strong fashion and design nation, and fashion folk from all over the world flock to Copenhagen Fashion Week to see what Danish designers have to offer for the coming seasons. Baum und Pferdgarten, Wood Wood and Anne Sofie Madsen are three strong Danish fashion brands, and we look forward to giving travellers a bite of the special fashion-week atmosphere when the three brands show the garments, accessories and show pieces from their SS14 shows. said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales and Marketing for Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Fashion inspiration starts at the airport
For many designers, the road to new trends and innovative ideas is to go international. So what better than for chief designers Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave of Baum und Pferdgarten to create fashion inspiration in a place like Copenhagen Airport, Denmark's gateway to the world.

At Baum und Pferdgarten, we get our inspiration from spotting trends worldwide. We are excited to have this opportunity to give the many travellers at Copenhagen Airport an extra experience and help bring focus to Copenhagen Fashion week and Danish design. said Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave.

In addition to the exhibition of the collections of the three designer brands, the fashion universe will also have fashion surprises for travellers. In the two weeks from 20 January to 9 February, there will be spectacular pop-up dance shows with strong references to the universe of Copenhagen Fashion Week as well as happenings in different places around the airport.

The fashion universe will be located in the Nytorv area outside the duty- and tax-free store between Terminals 2 and 3.

Facts about the three designer brands

Baum und Pferdgarten
Baum und Pferdgarten was established in 1999 by designers Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave. The brand originated from a dream of creating fashion clothing with a hint of irony and a position between harmony and wryness. Characteristic for the two designers is their uncompromising approach to design and quality and their sharp eye for detail. Contrasts are a common feature that give the brand's collections a dualistic touch: The meeting between feminine and masculine, minimal contra grandiose, shiny versus matte – their aim is always to surprise. Over the years, Baum und Pferdgarten have received numerous awards for their innovative design. The brand's designs are currently sold in leading shops and department stores in places like Copenhagen, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Wood Wood
Founded in 2002, Wood Wood is based in Copenhagen and has stores in Berlin, Vienna, Aarhus and Copenhagen as well as an online store. With a clear ambition of not following fashion industry expectations, Wood Wood has successfully combined underground elements with high-end features to create its own aesthetics. Wood Wood is known for its legendary graphic profile that often focuses on contrasts and symbols in a naive universe. Based on the philosophy of designing clothing which the trio of designers would want to wear themselves, Wood Wood's semi-annual collections have evolved to become more tailored and mature over time. Wood Wood has been part of the official fashion week programmes in Copenhagen or Berlin since the presentation of its first fashion show in 2007.

Anne Sofie Madsen
Born and raised in Denmark, Anne Sofie Madsen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2009 and then moved to London to work for Alexander McQueen. She debuted in 2010 with her first couture-inspired collection during London Fashion Week. Despite the ever changing themes of Anne Sofie Madsen's collections, her vision always stays the same: A wish to show the well-known through the un-known and to use traditional handcraft methods and couture techniques in ready-to-wear fashion clothing.

Anne Sofie Madsen works with materials such as leather, built-up collars with unconventional patterns and hand-drawn illustrations printed digitally on silk or wool fabrics. By consistently playing with contrasts and materials, she creates a look of mixed toughness and fragility to each design.
