CPH offers lowest duty and tax-free prices in Scandinavia

Prices at the duty and tax-free stores at Copenhagen Airport are lower than at the neighbouring airports in Scandinavia, a price check made by Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten in November shows.

Perfume, cigarettes and liquor are some of the products passengers typically buy when they shop in the duty and tax-free stores. This applies in Denmark, in Scandinavia and in the rest of the world.

But although the products are the same, prices are not necessarily the same. A new survey conducted by Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten showed that Copenhagen Airport offers the lowest duty and tax-free prices in Scandinavia.

Save money in Copenhagen
Aftenposten compared the prices of 25 randomly chosen products in the duty and tax-free stores at Oslo Gardermoen, Værnes, Flesland, Kjevik and Sola (all in Norway), at Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden and at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.

The Norwegian newspaper compared the prices of two randomly packed shopping baskets in the Nordic duty and tax-free shops, and in both cases, the one from Copenhagen Airport had the lowest overall price tag.

When compared with the shopping baskets from Stockholm Arlanda, which turned out to be the most expensive, the shopping baskets from Copenhagen Airport were about DKK 110 and about DKK 187 cheaper, respectively.

CPH focuses on price
The duty and tax-free stores at Copenhagen Airport are operated by Gebr. Heinemann Retail. They acknowledge that price is one of the key parameters, and they therefore naturally focus on price in their six duty and tax-free stores at Copenhagen Airport.

One of the tools used by Gebr. Heinemann Retail is price checks every six months to ensure that prices at their duty and tax-free stores are always 20% below the recommended selling prices on the Danish market for perfume and cosmetics. They also keep an eye on their colleagues to the north:

“Competition is very intense in Scandinavia, and we make great efforts to ensure that we offer wine, liquor and cigarettes at prices that are, as a minimum, competitive with those charged by our Nordic colleagues. The Aftenposten price check shows that our efforts are having the intended effect, and that is very reassuring,” said Tore Hov, General Manager of Gebr. Heinemann Retail Denmark.
