Cimber to launch services to six new destinations out of Copenhagen
Cimber Sterling is going to launch services out of Copenhagen to Madrid, Sofia, Belgrade, Bordeaux, Corsica and Thessaloniki. Cimber will be using its new Boeing 737s for its flights to the new destinations on its European route map.
Last Friday, Cimber Sterling added yet another Boeing 737 to its fleet, and the aircraft will mainly be used to increase its frequencies on a number of important routes such as Copenhagen-Rome to which Cimber Sterling will have two daily flights starting this spring.
“It is important for us to increase both our quality and range of destinations. When we increase the number of frequencies and destinations, our passengers will have more options, which is what the market wants,” said Bjarne Rasmussen, Sales and Marketing Director of Cimber Sterling.
Services to eastern EuropeThe demand for flights to Sofia has increased significantly since Bulgaria joined the EU. Belgrade in Serbia is developing rapidly, and both Sofia and Belgrade are popular city-break destinations because the price level is substantially lower than in many other European capitals. There will be two weekly flights to both Sofia and Belgrade.
“We have been in a close dialogue with Cimber Sterling about various route opportunities, and we see great potential in some of the routes to eastern Europe,” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, Copenhagen Airports.
Madrid is a popular destination
Moreover, Cimber Sterling is going to launch three weekly flights to Madrid. After having been overshadowed by Barcelona for a number of years, Madrid is now gaining in popularity. Most Danes have visited Barcelona, now it’s time to visit Madrid as well, where hotel rates are generally lower and the climate is warmer than in Barcelona.
Cimber Sterling is also continuing to expand to popular summer holiday destinations such as Thessaloniki in northern Greece and to Pieria, which boasts the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Another new destination is Corsica, also dubbed “the island of beauty” due to its azure-blue sea and white sandy beaches. Cimber Sterling is the first airline in Denmark to launch scheduled flights to Thessaloniki and Corsica.
The last new route out of Copenhagen is also to a classical summer destination: Bordeaux. The destination will be served by a flight every Sunday, and one on Thursdays as well during the school summer holidays. Bordeaux caters to a broad range of passengers as the area offers different activities such as vineyard holidays, surfing, fishing and big-city holidays. Cimber Sterling will be operating two weekly flights to Bordeaux.
