Pick up your tax- and duty-free shopping on return and save carbon emissions

Copenhagen Airport has introduced the option of picking up tax- and duty-free products on arrival. Intra-EU passengers no longer have to carry their pre-ordered tax- and duty-free products on their flight. The new option will give passengers a more pleasant journey and reduce environmental impact.

More than 200,000 bottles of fragrances and skin care products and around 100,000 bottles of wine and champagne can skip the flight in future thereby saving many tonnes of carbon emissions. Copenhagen Airports offers passengers travelling within the EU the option of picking up pre-ordered products at duty free prices on arrival instead of on departure.  There are environmental benefits of the new scheme and it saves passengers unnecessary trouble.

“Tax- and duty-free products have a long journey behind them when they land on passengers’ shelves, a journey we can now shorten by keeping the goods on the ground. The lighter the aircraft, the lower the fuel consumption, so the airline saves fuel and reduces its carbon emissions,” said Henrik Busch, Commercial Director, Copenhagen Airports A/S.

You can pre-order products at www.tax-free.dk
About 70% of locally departing passengers at Copenhagen Airport travel within the EU, and they can therefore use the new service which many people have asked for.

Passengers travelling beyond the EU must still pick up their pre-ordered goods before departure. The reason is that the goods must physically leave the EU area in order to become exempt from duty. Conversely, goods sold to intra-EU passengers are not truly duty free.

You can pre-order your tax- and duty-free goods at http://www.tax-free.dk/, and there you have the option of whether to pick up your shopping before departure or on arrival. In order to pre-order, you must be a member of The Tax-Free Club.
