New toilet concept gradually being introduced at Copenhagen Airport
More space, more light and improved hygiene. That is the concept behind Copenhagen Airport’s new, modern toilets, developed according to the demands of passengers. The first of the toilets were taken into use on 8 May.
The new toilets were designed in consultation with the passengers, who have voiced their opinions through a number of surveys conducted by Copenhagen Airport. The foremost passenger demands were more space and better hygiene. And these factors were highlighted in the development of the new facilities.
“We react to our passengers’ demands. As a result, our toilets are now more spacious and allow passengers to bring their carry-on baggage trolleys with them. In addition, with the exception of the cubicle doors and soap dispensers, the toilet facilities are virtually touch-free. The toilets are fitted with automatic flush, and the water basins are fitted with sensor-controlled taps that automatically turn on so you can wash your hands,” explains Kristian Kongstad, VP, Real Estate, at Copenhagen Airport.
The airport’s operational and cleaning staff also played a role in the design of the toilets, and this has resulted in easy-to-clean toilets, due to the choice of materials and design, bright surfaces and, to the extent possible, windows.
The toilets in Pier A were the first to undergo refurbishment. The number of cubicles has been doubled, from five to ten. Two new baby changing facilities have been established for families with small children. More toilet units are scheduled for refurbishment in 2010 when the airport has compiled information about how passengers experience the new toilet facilities.
