Construction of CPH SWIFT begins
Copenhagen Airport’s new low-cost concept, CPH SWIFT, is now materialising. Construction will soon begin of a new building which is to provide facilities for continuous growth of low-cost traffic and ensure that passengers travelling out of Copenhagen Airport will have low fares to more destinations. Brødrene A. & B. Andersen A/S has been selected as the turnkey contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion before the end of 2010.
The development of the site has been completed, the turnkey contractor has been selected, and the construction of Copenhagen Airport's new low-cost pier, CPH SWIFT, will begin within the next few weeks.
The new building will be an extension to the existing Pier D with direct access to six new gates and will be ready for use towards the end of 2010. CPH SWIFT is designed with special focus on efficiency in order to give the airlines new growth opportunities and passengers travelling out of Denmark low fares to more destinations.
“The low-cost carriers have generated substantial growth at Copenhagen Airport in recent years and continue to expand, even in the currently depressed market. With CPH SWIFT, we are creating a new concept and providing new physical facilities that meet low-cost carrier demand for quick service of passengers and handling of aircraft,” said Brian Petersen, CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S.
A 6,000 square metre buildingFrom the outset, CPH SWIFT will have capacity for six million passengers, with the possibility of expanding capacity when necessary.
The new building will have 6,700 sqm of floor space in addition to a 2,400 sqm hallway connecting CPH SWIFT with Pier D and Terminal 3. The turnkey contractor selected for the project is Brødrene A. & B. Andersen A/S, which is also the turnkey contractor on two major projects currently under way in the Copenhagen Ørestad region: Neroport and Copenhagen Golf Park.

CPH SWIFT was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, the company that also designed Copenhagen Airport’s Terminals 2 and 3 and the first terminal constructed in 1943.
