Check-in for flights at the Copenhagen central railway station

Copenhagen Airport and DSB now offer airline passengers the option of checking in already at the Copenhagen central railway station. This gives passengers even more choices and a relaxed travel experience.

No less than 30 airlines offer check-in via kiosks at Copenhagen Airport, making the airport the leading airport in the world in respect of this service. Until now, this type of self service has only been available at the airport proper, but from 29 September, this option has been extended to the Copenhagen central railway station as well. In collaboration with DSB (Danish State Railways), the airport has installed two self-service kiosks by the main entrance to the railway station.

“The idea behind check-in at the central railway station is that Copenhagen Airport and DSB want to make the trip easier for our joint customers. When you have checked in already at the central railway station, the rail trip and the passage through the airport becomes simple and frictionless,” said Michael Lindhart Løve, VP for Operations at Copenhagen Airports.

Many self-service options
It was natural for DSB to add airline passenger check-in to the many self-service options at the central railway station.

“Start your trip to Scandinavia, Europe or the rest of the world at the Copenhagen central railway station. The new opportunities of checking in at the central railway station make travelling easy and relaxing.  There are seven trains to Copenhagen Airport during most hours of the day and night. We expect that check-in at the central railway station will have the effect that many passengers will travel to the airport by train and thus support the concept of environmentally friendly transport”, said Anne-Lise Bach Sørensen, VP for long-distance and regional train services at DSB.

First kiosks outside the airport
Check-in at the central railway station means that passengers travelling without checked baggage can proceed directly to security screening. Passengers travelling with checked baggage can go directly to the baggage drop counter.

Except for the check-in kiosks at the Copenhagen Airport Hilton and in two of the airport’s multi-storey carparks, the kiosks at the central railway station are the first to be installed outside the airport proper. In order to obtain permission to install kiosks outside the airport area, Copenhagen Airport had to comply with a number of criteria established by the Danish Civil Aviation Administration Denmark (CAA-DK, Danish acronym: SLV). The criteria are to ensure that the same high security level is maintained as for the CCTV-monitored kiosks at the airport.

Closed circuit TV surveillance
“As a valid ticked for the flight is printed out on check-in, the security level must necessarily be high. We therefore have to secure the kiosks against burglary and vandalism. The kiosks are consequently monitored by CCTV and have acoustic alarms and are bolted to the floor. This was a prerequisite for obtaining CAA-DK approval, and we naturally have to meet those requirements,” said Michael Lindhart Løve.

Approximately 43% of all passengers use the check-in kiosks at Copenhagen Airport, and together with other self-service options such as online check-in or check-in by mobile phone, this means that almost 60% of passengers at Copenhagen Airport currently do their own checking in. The industry average is approximately 40%.
