Better facilities in Terminal 3

More space and better check-in facilities. Copenhagen Airport today celebrated the completion of the remodelling of Terminal 3 to improve the facilities for the growing number of passengers who travel to and from the airport by train or Metro.

It is easy for both Danish and Swedish passengers to travel to and from Copenhagen Airport by environmentally and climate friendly means of transport. Today, 54% of passengers travel to the airport by public transport. Copenhagen Airport thus clearly ranks above the European average of just 32% of passengers travelling to and from the airports by public transport.

“We now have a very well-developed infrastructure with the station area being an integral part of Terminal 3. The high proportion of passengers using public transport shows how important this integration is and that it helps reduce CO2 emissions,” said COO Henrik Peter Jørgensen of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Passenger flow improved
The successful integration of the Metro and railway stations in Terminal 3 means that, each day, 36,000 passengers and employees flow through the northern end of the terminal, and this flow has now been enhanced through better space and the installation of escalators to the Metro station.

DSB ticket sales, which sells tickets for trains, the Metro and busses has been relocated from the middle area to the eastern side of the terminal. This relocation has given DSB the opportunity to digitalise ticket sales for the convenience of both customers and staff. Moreover three shops in the area have been relocated and refurbished. This has released an area of approximately 200 square metres in the middle of the terminal, which has improved check-in conditions for SAS and the other members of Star Alliance.

“In a few weeks’ time, there will be ten new check-in kiosks in the new area in Terminal 3. That will make it easier and faster for our passengers to check in and enhance the flow of passengers through the terminal,” said Mikkel Thrane, Head of Media Relations, SAS.

Trains to Copenhagen every ten minutes
The railway station has been an integral part of Copenhagen Airport since Terminal 3 was built in the late 1990s. Trains depart for Copenhagen every ten minutes and every 20 minutes to Sweden via the Øresund bridge. The travel time to Copenhagen is just 13 minutes, and 22 minutes to Malmo. Moreover, there are direct trains to Zealand, Funen and Jutland.

“Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, is one of the most important stations for the customers of DSBFirst in Denmark. We are therefore very pleased that the facilities at the airport are now even better, and we hope this will result in continued growth in the number of passengers from Denmark as well as Sweden. We are pleased to be able to contribute to the favourable developments, and DSBFirst intends to focus on making the overall trip by rail and air
even more simple and reliable in future,” said Karsten Røn Andersen, CEO of DSBFirst.

Round-the-clock Metro service to Copenhagen
Since the Metro station opened some 18 months ago, the Metro has reached a level of transporting about 15% of passengers to and from the airport. Metro trains depart for the Copenhagen city centre every three minutes during peak house, and round-the-clock service was introduced recently, offering increased flexibility to passengers and the approximately 22,000 people working at the airport.

“More and more passengers use the Metro to and from the airport, and with the introduction of round-the-clock service, we expect this trend to continue. We are pleased that passengers now have better access and check-in facilities, making the change from Metro and flight easier and more flexible,” said Nina Kampmann, Traffic Policy Manager of the Metro company.
