Safe parking at the airport
Copenhagen Airport’s parking facilities are among the most secure in the Greater Copenhagen area. At Copenhagen Airport, the number of car break-ins is negligible compared with parking facilities elsewhere in the city. Nonetheless, the police advise parkers to empty their car of any valuables in order to further minimise the risk of break-ins.
In the past year, Copenhagen Airport in collaboration with Lufthavnsparkeringen A/S has increased surveillance of the airport’s car parks. The number of car break-ins at the airport has dropped by more than 80% relative to the first half of 2007, and the increased surveillance is one of the main reasons for the improvement.
”During the first six months of 2008, just 19 car break-ins at our car parks were reported. That’s 19 too many, of course, but unfortunately it is impossible to eliminate break-ins altogether. Lufthavnsparkeringen has made an enormous effort to make our car parks as secure as possible and the police are patrolling the areas regularly. As a result, we have managed to minimise the number of break-ins in the past few years”, explains Henrik Busch, Commercial Director, Copenhagen Airports A/S.
Increased surveillance
Even though the increased surveillance has dramatically reduced the number of break-ins, the police advise all parkers to follow a few simple guidelines to avoid tempting thieves:
”A simple rule of thumb is: Empty your car of valuables, and be particularly careful to remove any mobile navigation systems,” recommends Jørgen Carlsen, Chief Inspector of the Copenhagen police. He adds: ”It’s not enough to remove the GPS from your windscreen. You have to remove the holder as well, and also the mark left by the suction mount – otherwise there is a risk that the thieves may break into your car anyway to see if the GPS is in the glove compartment.
