New optician concept at Copenhagen Airport

If you are in transit at Copenhagen Airport or if you are a locally departing passenger and have some time left before your flight, you can now spend the time to have a pair of new, individual glasses fitted in just 15 minutes. The Optical Studio in Terminal 3 opened on 1 June and offers eye examinations, a broad range of glasses and quick, professional advice. On the opening day, the first pair of glasses sold was delivered at the gate.

In a busy working life, it may be difficult to find time to visit your optician if your eyes need a check-up. In future, you can use your waiting time at the airport to visit the Optical Studio where a professional optician will be ready to give you an eye test, a check of your contact lenses and advice on which glasses or sun glasses to choose. The Optical Studio opened on 1 June and specialises in making an individualised pair of glasses in just 15 minutes.

15 minutes processing time

“Many people familiar with the optometry industry are surprised that we can produce an individualised pair of glasses at the Optical Studio in just 15 minutes based on commonly used types of glasses. We can do that because we have a well-trained, professional team of employees, a large inventory of eyeglass lenses and a broad range of frames from all the well-known brands,” explains Gudjon Gumdundsson, the shop manager. At the Optical Studio you will find brands such as Prada, Chanel, Lindberg, Versace, Bulgari, Ray Ban and many more.

The optician Kjartan Kristjansson developed the Optical Studio concept in Iceland and has refined it over a ten-year period at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland.

Professional assistance by an optician

According to Henrik Busch, Copenhagen Airport’s director of commercial affairs, the concept of Optical Studio fits perfectly into the airport environment as the shop offers efficient, on-the-spot service by well-trained opticians.

“Time is important at an airport, and we focus on offering passengers a range of possibilities of filling their waiting time by practical and pleasant experiences. We are impressed by the Optical Studio’s professional concept and the success they have achieved in Iceland. It was therefore a natural step next for us to offer Kjartan Kristjansson a location in our new international “shopping street” – where the shop’s famous brands fit well into the product ranges offered by other shops. The first pair of glasses sold were delivered to the customer at the gate before departure – that is good service,” said Busch.

Located in Terminal 3

More sophisticated types of glasses take 5-7 days to make. The glasses will then be sent by post to the customer. As an alternative, passengers can pick up their glasses the next time they arrive or are in transit at the airport.

Passengers having an eye examination done or waiting for their new glasses are offered a cup of coffee or a refreshment in the small bar in the shop, while the optician completes the order.

The Optical Studio is located in Terminal 3 next to the Sand clothing store.
