Carpark check-in
More and more passengers are checking themselves in, most recently using the self-service kiosks in the P6 and P8 carparks. More check-in kiosks are on the way.
For business travellers and others travelling without checked baggage, using the self-service check-in kiosks is an excellent way to jump the queue. These kiosks are growing steadily in number; the most recent additions are the machines in the P6 and P8 parking areas.
Since the Metro line opened all the way to the airport this autumn, two check-in kiosks have been set up at the airport Metro station.
"These are very popular machines, so we'll be setting up two more there and adding more to the number we have in both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 this spring," says Copenhagen Airports CEO Brian Petersen.
Checking in at the Central Station
The next step is check-in kiosks at Copenhagen Central Station, which are scheduled for installation in March.
"Everything indicates that, more and more, it's not just experienced business travellers, but also other groups of passengers that want to do their own checking in and avoid airport queues. It's something both the airlines and we at the airport are very happy to see and supporting because it makes life easier for passengers. What we'll be seeing in future is a departures hall that looks different than it does now, with fewer check-in counters and more baggage drops, and many people simply passing through the departures hall and walking direct to the security screening area," says Petersen.
Shorter waiting times
The global figure for people checking in themselves is nine per cent of all passengers today. Copenhagen Airport can boast of as many as 40 per cent, 30 per cent of whom use the self-service kiosks. This high percentage is the result of a targeted collaboration between airlines and Copenhagen Airport to give passengers more options and reduce the time they spend waiting at the airport.
Copenhagen Airport is continually investing in more self-service kiosks and working together with the airlines and the authorities to develop the other technologies available: online and mobile phone check-in.
