Passengers have discovered the Metro at CPH

The Metro station at the airport is celebrating its first birthday, and it's a success. Roughly three million passengers have taken the Metro to CPH, proving the importance of a short distance from public transport to aircraft.

Its first year of existence at the airport has seen the Metro grow big and strong. About 15 per cent of passengers take the Metro to get to CPH today, and that percentage is steadily increasing.

"With a transport time of just 15 minutes from Nørreport Station, the Metro is a quick and comfortable way to get from the city centre to the airport. A lot of people have discovered that, and we can see that more and more people are taking the Metro to and from the airport," said Peter Kyhl, operations director and administration manager for the Metroselskabet company.

Ideal location
Much of the impressive growth in use of the Metro station at the airport is due to its ideal location as an integrated part of Terminal 3.

"More than 50 per cent of our passengers either come by train or Metro, so it is important for Copenhagen Airport that these stations are an integrated part of our terminal buildings. The Metro's first year at the airport has shown that passengers were quick adopters of this new form of transport, not least because it offers such a short distance from train seat to plane seat," said Henrik Peter Jørgensen, chief operating officer of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Over the past few months, Metro passengers have totalled roughly 55 thousand a week.
