Election campaign at Copenhagen Airport

There will be political debates at Copenhagen Airport during the days leading up to the Danish parliamentary election on 13 November. Several top politicians have wanted to visit Denmark’s largest workplace in the last days of the election campaign. Over the next few days, the following politicians will visit Copenhagen Airport: Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Employment Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen, Finance Minister Thor Pedersen and Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Chairman of the largest opposition party, the Social Democrats.

On Friday, 9 November, Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Claus Hjort Frederiksen will visit Copenhagen Airport, the largest workplace in Denmark. The ministers wanted to meet the people who work at the airport, known for their flexible work functions and thus greater work variation.

Some of the people Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Claus Hjort Frederiksen will meet during their visit are employees who work in the fire brigade one day and clear snow on the runways the next.

Varying working days

"I look forward very much to meeting the Prime Minister and the Employment Minister, and I look forward to telling them about my work as a fireman at the airport’s Fire and Rescue Service. At Copenhagen Airport, large numbers of the employees have varying workdays with changing working hours and work functions. This creates flexibility and variation in people’s workdays," said Stig Gellert, who is a fireman, a union representative for the firemen and a member of the Supervisory Board of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Claus Hjort Frederiksen will also meet the airport’s security staff at the new central security checkpoint. which opened before the summer of 2007.

The employees have been involved in the establishment of the new security screening facility and in the selection of the technical equipment, which has great influence on the employees’ working conditions.

Political duel between Helle Thorning-Schmidt and Thor Petersen

On the day before the election, 12 November, there will be a political duel between Thor Pedersen and Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Former TV host Vibeke Hartkorn will lead the duel at the airport.

Vibeke Hartkorn will ask a number of the questions submitted in advance by the employees on subjects they would like to have discussed during the duel to take place the day before the election day on 13 November.
