SAS reopens non-stop service from Copenhagen to Greenland
Last Monday morning SAS reopened its service to Søndre Strømfjord (Kangerlussuaq) after more than four years’ break.
There are now non-stop SAS flights to Greenland out of Copenhagen Airport. Last Monday morning at 7.50 am, an Airbus A-319 took off heading north west to Søndre Strømfjord – or Kangerlussuaq in the Greenlandic language.
The flying time to Søndre Strømfjord is 4 hours and 50 minutes. Until early June, there will be flights on Mondays and Fridays, but from early June, the service will be upgraded to three weekly frequencies (Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays).
"We are pleased that Greenland is back in the SAS schedule with non-stop flights out of Copenhagen Airport. With its unique scenery, Greenland has great potential as a tourist destination, and we are seeing a growing interest in visits to Greenland," said Corinna Lundbæk Pedersen, head of Airline Relations at Copenhagen Airports.
SAS previously operated flights to Søndre Strømfjord until late 2002.
