Roskilde Airport to be developed
The strategy for Roskilde Airport remains unchanged: The airport is to be developed and customer needs will determine how this will be done in the coming years. An environmental approval is the basis for the development of the airport. Right now, the market for business aircraft is growing. But focus may change, if scheduled airlines should display an interest in flying out of Roskilde Airport.
New airport for low-cost carriers, close-down, airport for chartered flights, centre for business aircraft, or divestment of Roskilde Airport. Rumours of the development of Roskilde Airport have flourished for a long time. “We are neither selling nor closing down the airport. On the contrary, we have decided to develop the airport. Exactly how this will be done depends entirely on customer needs,” says Henrik Peter Jørgensen, Chief Operating Officer of Copenhagen Airports.
The market for business aircraft is growing: “We are keeping an eye on the market for business jets and we see that it is a growing market. Today, Roskilde Airport is a small, but exclusive and smooth airport, well-suited for business aircraft, and we are looking into the possibilities of developing it to meet the requirements even better in this area,” says Henrik Peter Jørgensen.
Scheduled traffic may be the future
“We regularly show the airport to scheduled airlines, but right now we have no actual customer base, and as long as there is no demand, we will not make any capacity expansions. In any case, there’s no doubt that we’ll have to be able to expand in the future, and that means we need to have the necessary environmental approvals in place,” Jørgensen says in closing.
Copenhagen Airports is still awaiting final clarification of its EIA (environmental impact assessment) status, which is currently being processed by the authorities.
