Christmas: One of the quietest times
As opposed to many other holiday times of the year, Christmas is one of the quietest at Copenhagen Airport.
Christmas is almost here, and in the days before Christmas, we rush out to do our last Christmas shopping, and there is a lot of traffic everywhere, with people going on Christmas holiday. It is an entirely different scene at Copenhagen Airport. Christmas is one of the quietest times of the year, with the fewest departures.
On 24 December and on Christmas Day, Copenhagen Airport sees only one-fourth of the 400 departures of an average day.
Fewer business and holiday travellers
The busiest days of Christmas are the Friday and Saturday before Christmas – this year 21 and 22 December – when the number of departing passengers per day is expected to reach about 24,000 (including domestic passengers), which is slightly more than an average departure day at the airport.
According to Susanne Frank, passenger manager at Copenhagen Airports A/S, the reduction in travel activity between Christmas and New Year’s Day is due to many business travellers being on Christmas holiday. Also, the

number of holiday travellers is much lower than it is during the summer.
“In the days between Christmas and New Year’s, traffic is at one of the lowest levels of the year, when we have the fewest business and holiday travellers. The airport is in operation 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, but Christmas is traditionally the quietest time of the year,” says Frank. |
Traffic will pick up again on 2 January
The turn of the year is also a quiet time at the airport, and traffic does not pick up again until 2 January. In fact, January is the month of the year that sees the lowest number of passengers at the airport.
