Blacklisting of unsafe airlines

The European Commission and the European Parliament have agreed to blacklist airlines that do not meet international aviation safety standards.

The European aviation authorities regularly check the safety of aircraft from third countries through surprise inspections, and the results are reported to a common-European database. In future, the national aviation authorities in the EU must also report unsafe airlines to the EU.

In addition, it has been decided that entire countries can also be blacklisted. All airlines based in a specific country may be banned from EU airports if its aviation authorities do not have a satisfactory regulatory system.
