Direct flights to Kaliningrad
Passengers will now have the option of flying non-stop from Copenhagen Airport to the Russian enclave Kaliningrad, which is located on the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania. On 16 August 2006, Latvian-based airline airBaltic opens a new route from Copenhagen to Kaliningrad in collaboration with SAS and Pulkovo Airlines.
AirBaltic will be offering four weekly frequencies to Kaliningrad – on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – using Fokker-50s. The flying time will be one hour and 45 minutes. AirBaltic already flies to Riga and Vilnius out of Copenhagen Airport, which is increasingly used as a hub for air traffic to the Baltic states and the Baltic Sea region.
airBaltic operates 33 routes to Riga and 14 to Vilnius and had more than one million passengers last year. SAS owns 47.2% of the airline, whilst the Latvian state is the majority shareholder with an interest of 52.6%.
