Parking for every budget

On 1 February 2006, a new Economy parking section will open at Copenhagen Airport with long-term parking that costs just DKK 270 a week or DKK 445 for two weeks. Also on 1 February, parking charges will be raised at the other airport parking facilities, but airport rates will still be competitive compared with the cost of parking in the Copenhagen city centre or at other Scandinavian and European airports.

Thirty kroner for 24 hours or thirty kroner for an hour? There is a wide range of parking services on offer to the growing number of motorists leaving their cars at Copenhagen Airport, and the range is about to get even wider. At the same time, parking rates will be increased for the first time in more than three and a half years.

“The demand for parking at the airport has risen sharply over the past few years, so we continue to construct new parking facilities and expand the number of parking categories and price levels offered to meet different needs,” says Vice President Mogens Kornbo of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

More parking spaces

Since the last parking rate increase, the airport has built two large new carparks and expanded or renovated a number of other parking facilities, resulting in a 20-40 per cent increase in the number of parking spaces available. During this same time, charges for most parking spaces have remained unchanged.

“We adjusted rates for the most sought-after business parking spaces slightly, but otherwise we haven’t increased parking charges since the summer of 2002. Now we’ve decided to raise rates by 10-25 per cent, but we are still fully competitive with parking in the city centre and other European airports,” Kornbo says.

New economy rate

The rates increase also brings with it a new opportunity for customers to park for less than what it currently costs in the Holiday parking lots: a new Economy rate of just DKK 270 a week or DKK 445 for 15 days.

“With our new rates structure, we have parking for every need and every budget, from economy to business. We offer parking starting at just DKK 30 an hour, but people who want to be able to walk from their car right into the terminal will have to pay more for that option,” states Kornbo.

Competitive rates

With its new parking rates, Copenhagen Airport is slightly cheaper than Stockholm/Arlanda airport and on level with the prices charged at Oslo/Gardermoen. Products and price structures, however, vary widely from airport to airport and thus are not directly comparable. Compared with the other key European airports, Copenhagen is mid-range in its parking rates and, for example, considerably less expensive than London/Heathrow.

 New parking prices

Price structure:
Parking charges vary, generally by how far you park from the terminals.

There are six different price groups.

The first 15 mins. of parking are free of charge everywhere.

With the new rates, a week's parking costs between DKK 270 and DKK 1385.

Parking service:
There are about 8500 parking spaces at the airport, located in 14 different car parks.

All parking facilities are monitored 24 hours a day by cameras and security guards.

Most of the parking spaces are covered.

There are a limited number of parking spaces where customers can pay extra to put their vehicles behind steel fencing with special lock systems.

Fewer or more than eight days:
Holiday and Economy parking is mainly for passengers who wish to park for a week or more.

It costs the same to park your car there for more than six hours  as it does for eight days.

Buses free of charge are running from P15 to the terminals 24 hours a day.
