Germany draws more passengers
The flights between Copenhagen Airport and a number of German cities are drawing increasing numbers of passengers. During the first three months of the year, 417,000 passengers travelled to or from Germany, 59,000 or just over 16% more than in the same period last year.
The growth was distributed on a number of destinations, headed by Munich and followed by Frankfurt and Berlin. For Berlin, there have been three different options in recent months since Sterling launched flights to Tempelhof Airport on 30 October 2005. SAS flies to Berlin-Tegel and easyJet to Berlin-Schönefeld.
From 2 May, passengers will have even more options, when low-cost airline Air Berlin launches flights to Tegel Airport. On the same date, the airline will also start flights to Copenhagen, Hamburg and Dusseldorf.
Altogether, ten German destinations are served out of Copenhagen Airport, and the total number of passengers travelling to or from Germany in 2005 was 1,653,000, corresponding to 8.3% of the 20 million passengers who travelled through Scandinavia’s largest airport. This makes Germany the fourth largest destination out of Copenhagen, only surpassed by Norway, Sweden and the UK.
