More people fly domestic
A growing number of people are choosing to travel by air between Copenhagen and the Danish provinces. In May, there were more than 140,000 passengers on the domestic flights to and from Copenhagen Airport, 21,000 more than in May 2005, equivalent to a growth rate of 18%.
The number of domestic passengers has increased substantially in 2006, and the number of passengers on domestic services rose by 82,000 passengers in the period January to May 2006 compared with the same period of 2005, equivalent to 15% growth.
“An important reason for the growth in domestic traffic is the reduction of the Danish passenger tax from DKK 150 to DKK 75 per return trip. This has resulted in an increase in the number of low-fare tickets on offer and has made domestic air travel more competitive compared with other modes of transport,” said Niels Boserup, President & CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S.
The growth is particularly pronounced on the routes to Rønne and Aalborg, but also the services to Aarhus and Karup have seen an increase in passenger numbers.
