In early October, Singapore Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo) increases the number of cargo flights using Boeing 747 freighters out of Copenhagen Airport from five to nine a week. |
In addition, SIA Cargo is adding three new cargo destinations to and from Copenhagen: New Delhi and Bangalore, India and Chicago, USA.
“With the new cargo services to Copenhagen, the Scandinavian business community will have even more connections to eastern Asia as well as main-deck capacity to the large growth markets in India and to Chicago, one of the major hubs in the USA,” said Cargo Manager Lars Korup of Copenhagen Airports A/S.
Targeted work
Last year, Copenhagen Airport began targeted efforts to attract more cargo flights. In that connection, charges for all-cargo flights using large freighters were adjusted to get an even better position in the competition with the other cargo hubs in northern Europe.

These efforts were successful already in the spring of this year, when Korean Air Cargo increased the number of flights from Copenhagen to Seoul from three to five Boeing 747 freighters per week. |
SIA Cargo’s new services will increase the number of flights using large freighters out of Copenhagen Airport to 14 per week, each with capacity for more than 100 tonnes of cargo.
“The new Singapore Airlines services emphasise the growing importance of Copenhagen as a hub for air cargo to northern Europe and the Baltic states,” said Korup
Growth in cargo operations
Cargo volumes at Copenhagen Airport grew by 7.5% year on year in the first half of 2005. The total volume of cargo handled at Copenhagen Airport during the first six months of the year was more than 170,000 tonnes. During the same period, the number of cargo operations rose by 7.7%, whilst the take-off mass of cargo flights increased by 17.4% year on year.
