Perfume and cosmetics less expensive at Copenhagen Airport

It is cheaper to buy tax-free goods in Copenhagen Airport than it is on the Danish high street, according to a report by Danish market researchers Vilstrup comparing 303 randomly selected perfume and cosmetic products.

Prices of products sold in the tax-free shop at the airport were compared with the recommended sales prices of corresponding products in Danish drug store chain Matas and other shops in the Copenhagen city centre and shopping centres. Different products were selected in each of the five product categories.

Save more than 20 per cent

“But do you really save any money if you buy perfume and cosmetics at the airport? We get that question once in a while, and then it’s nice to have examples of how we are at least 20 per cent cheaper than the shops in Copenhagen. Many passengers do their perfume and cosmetics shopping at Copenhagen Airport because the product range we carry is one of Europe’s widest. We supply not only Danes, but also a large number of international passengers, so we need to be competitive in perfume and cosmetics,” says Henrik Busch, vice president in charge of commercial business at Copenhagen Airports A/S.

The Vilstrup report shows that men’s and women’s fragrances, skin and body care products, and cosmetics are at least 20 per cent cheaper at the Airport than they are in Copenhagen shops.

Women’s fragrances (perfumes and deodorants): 22,8 per cent
Men’s fragrances (colognes and deodorants): 24,4 per cent
Skin and body care products for women: 23,0 per cent
Skin and body care products for men: 20,9 per cent
Cosmetics:   20,5 per cent
