Internet sales of duty and tax free products are growing at Copenhagen Airport

The trend is very clear. Internet sales of duty and tax free products rose tenfold from April 2004 to April 2005. It has been three years since internet sales of duty and tax free products were launched for passengers travelling out of Copenhagen Airport.  However, it is only now that passengers are really beginning to make use of this option.

“We have clearly seen a major increase in the demand for products being ordered on the internet over the past year. We listen to our passengers, and we have therefore done a lot to develop the tax free page on our website to make it easy to use. We also see it as a way our passengers can save time,” comments Henrik Busch, vice president and head of commercial operations at Copenhagen Airport.

“Most passengers know which tax free products they want already before they leave home. For may people, travelling may – already at the outset – involve a lot of new impressions and decisions to be made. Therefore, it is easy for passengers to do their shopping at their own pace behind the computer. That gives them the opportunity to spend the time before departure shopping, relaxing or using some of the other facilities at Copenhagen Airport," adds Henrik Busch.

Still lower prices than in the high street

“Many people falsely believe that the airport is an expensive place to shop for perfume and cosmetics, but if you compare our prices with the city prices, our prices are still about 20% lower. And if you shop on the internet in May or June, we have a new offer: an additional 20% to be saved,” says the vice president of commercial operations.
