Airport helped make Copenhagen world’s leading cruise ship port

For the first time ever, Copenhagen has been named the “World’s Leading Cruise Destination”, beating out metropolises such as New York and Barcelona. At a ceremony held recently in London, the World Travel Award, as the prize is called, was presented in connection with the World Travel Market trade fair, and only the sharpest critics, travel agencies and agents were permitted to vote.

“Having won the title of both the world’s and Europe’s leading cruise ship destination, we really have something to live up to. But we also have a network of strong collaboration partners who provide logistics that are second to none. We always get good feedback from the agencies about how pleased passengers were about everything being just perfect, from the time they landed at a smoothly functioning airport to the time their cruise ship set sail. This recognition is due to a joint effort by the 45 members of Cruise Copenhagen Network. And when I’m out there selling Copenhagen as a traffic hub, the airport being so close to the port and city is a major sales factor,” says Per Schmidt, general manager of Copenhagen Malmö Port, who also mentions other collaboration partners such as SAS, hotels, transport companies, incoming bureaus, and the VisitDenmark and Wonderful Copenhagen tourism organisations.
