Cheaper flights out of Denmark

It will be cheaper to fly out of Copenhagen Airport starting next year. The Danish government has just signed a budget agreement for 2006 providing for a phase-out of the Danish government tax over two years.

The current government tax is DKK 75 (approximately EUR 10) per departing passenger. While being reduced by 50% to DKK 37.50 (EUR 5) per departing passenger in 2006, the government tax will be completely eliminated in 2007. In recent years, the government tax has yielded more than DKK 500 million annually to the Danish government.

In a press release concerning the budget agreement for 2006, the Danish Ministry of Finance states:

”The government tax will be phased out over a two-year period. Eliminating the tax will support the framework conditions for Danish airports and strengthen the overall platform for air traffic in Denmark.”
