More passengers to the Baltic countries

Air Baltic    Copenhagen Airport is increasingly being used by passengers travelling to and from the Baltic countries. In October alone, more than 41 thousand passengers flew from Copenhagen to the four Baltic destinations served by scheduled flights: almost 11 thousand more than in October of last year, corresponding to an increase of 35 per cent.

SAS helped create this trend with its new route to Palanga, Lithuania, which opened in November of last year. More passengers are also flying to the other destinations, with a 27 per cent rise in travellers to Tallinn in Estonia, a 20 per cent rise to Riga in Lativia and a 13 per cent rise to Vilnius in Lithuania.

Both SAS and Air Baltic fly to Vilnius, in October the most popular of the four Baltic destinations with almost 13 thousand passengers, followed closely by Tallinn and Riga, with about 12 thousand passengers each. Estonian Air and – since March of this year – FlyNordic as well serve Tallinn from Copenhagen, but only Air Baltic flies to Riga.

The number of passengers travelling between Copenhagen and the Baltic countries has risen in recent years, passing the 400-thousand-passenger mark in 2003. Traffic dropped off slightly last year, but the routes are currently rallying, with passenger numbers in the first ten months of 2005 4.3 per cent above those for the same period last year.
