First low-cost service to Scotland

Sterling

As of today (9 December) it is now possible to book low-cost flights to Scotland for the first time.

On 1 May 2005, Danish low-fare airline Sterling will be offering service on the Copenhagen-Edinburgh route.

There will be two weekly departures from Copenhagen: Thursdays and Sundays. The aircraft used for the flights will be Boeing 737s that seat between 150 and 200 passengers.

At the moment, EasyJet is the only low-cost airline with service to the UK. The airline offers flights on the Copenhagen-London Stansted route. Maersk Air sells low-fare tickets from Copenhagen to Manchester and London Gatwick, but is not generally considered to be a low-cost carrier.

Almost 10% of traffic at Copenhagen Airport is low-cost traffic. The seven low-fare carriers operating out of Copenhagen are Basiq Air, EasyJet, Flynordic, Iceland Express, Smart Wings, Sterling and Virgin Express.
