Rome draws more travellers

Travelling to Rome is becoming increasingly popular.

Maersk Air opened a new service from Copenhagen to Rome on Friday, 17 September. Moreover, Copenhagen Airport has recorded a year-on-year increase of more than 35% in the number of passengers to Rome during the first eight months of the year.

SAS, Sterling and Alitalia already have services to Rome. They carried a total of 78,771 passengers from Copenhagen to Rome in the first eight months of the year, compared with 58,078 in the same period of 2003.

According to Maersk Air’s Sales Manager, Anne von Glasow, the airline’s new ”Fly as you like” concept has created a demand for a service to Rome. ”Therefore, it was important for us to include this destination in our route network out of Copenhagen,” says Anne von Glasow.

Maersk Air flies to Fiumicino – the largest airport in Rome – initially with two weekly frequencies, and with four weekly frequencies beginning on 31 October. Fiumicino is already served by SAS and Alitalia, while Sterling flies to Ciampino.

If we disregard new destinations, Rome-Fiumicino is among the top-five destinations out of Copenhagen Airport in terms of year-on-year growth in passenger numbers.
