Punctuality performance at Copenhagen Airport

The annual report of the Association of European Airlines (AEA) shows that Copenhagen Airport had the lowest number of flight delays in 2003. About 10 out of 100 flights were delayed, equivalent to 10.5%. The rates of delays reported for the airports in Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo were between 10.8% and 12.2%, while the corresponding figures for Rome and Zurich were 28.7% and 29.9%

CPH Vice President Hans Christian Stigaard is pleased with the performance: “The figures in the delay statistics show that performance has improved since 1999 if we look at the average for all airports in the report. In 2003 the average rate of delays was 19.1%. In 1999, the rate was 30%.”

One of the reasons that Copenhagen Airport and the other Scandinavian airports perform better than many central and southern European airports is that, overall, there is space for more landings at the Scandinavian airports, and that they rarely have problems with runways being closed. During periods of normal landing capacity, we have space for 55 aircraft at Copenhagen Airport.

“We are in a good position compared to other airports as we can repair our runways during the night. The most important thing in this context is that passengers at Copenhagen Airport can be certain they can get in an out of Copenhagen on time. We are a hub for the region; therefore it is very important that we avoid delays,” says Stigaard.

AEA - Association of European Airlines. The statistics are made up on a quarterly basis. Moreover, an annual report is published in the first quarter of each year. The figures are based on delays of more than 15 minutes, which are reported directly by the airlines and not through the airports.
