Before they arrive
Has the plane landed? Has the baggage been unloaded? It can seem like a long wait when you are standing in the arrivals hall, not knowing how long it will take for family and friends to reclaim their baggage. However, it is much easier to take that coffee break or use the lavatory if you know exactly when the people you are picking up at the airport will be coming through the door to the arrivals hall.
Now you can check the monitors in the arrivals hall, not just to see whether or not the plane has landed, but also to find out how many minutes it will be before passengers for a flight can pick up their baggage. When the plane leaves the runway and arrives at a gate, the countdown starts on the monitor in the arrivals hall, so you can keep track of how far along in the arrival process the people you are waiting for have come.
