Largest airport in the Nordic region – No. 13 in Europe

With more than 9 million passengers in the first half of 2004 Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup easily defended its position as the largest airport in the Nordic region, and the 13th largest airport in Europe. This was confirmed by the latest passenger statistics from the Airports Council International (ACI).

Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport, the largest airport in the Nordic region a few years ago, came in second with just over 8 million passengers in the first half of 2004. Third in the Nordic region was Oslo with 7.2 million passengers, followed by Helsinki with almost 5.4 million passengers.

In Europe, Copenhagen Airport ranked number 13 in the first half of 2004, ahead of such airports as Milan/Malpensa, Palma de Mallorca, Zurich and Stockholm/Arlanda. The four largest airports in Europe during the period were London/Heathrow (32.2 million passengers), Paris/Roissy (24.4 million), Frankfurt (24.3 million) and Amsterdam (20 million).

In 2003, Copenhagen was the 57th largest airport worldwide with 17.7 million passengers. The world’s four largest airports were Atlanta (more than 79 million passengers), Chicago (69.5 million), London/Heathrow (63.5 million) and Tokyo (62.9 million).
