CPH: The transport industry should be better at looking at the whole picture
The airline industry will be represented for the first time at the Intermodal Transport & Logistics (ITL) 2004 conference. Copenhagen Airports is attending the conference to put the spotlight on air transport.
The Intermodal Transport & Logistics international transport conference, the ITL 2004, will be held on 2-4 November 2004. The twentieth annual conference of its kind, it is being held in Denmark for the first time.
Copenhagen Airport is attending the conference for the first time in order to put focus on the importance of air transport within the concept of intermodal transport:
“We must look at the whole picture if we are to be able to offer our customers the full benefits of the intermodal concept. We are located in the Øresund region, where it is natural to take advantage of the location of all four modes of transport in the same unique area. Copenhagen Airport is at the conference this year to make people aware of the potential synergies of using the various modes of transport in extension of each other,” comments Vice President Mogens Kornbo of Copenhagen Airports.
The Airport Business Park: A northern European cargo hub
Last year, Copenhagen Airport launched the idea of gathering the four modes of transport in a transport power centre. The vision of a logistics business centre – the Airport Business Park – is to attract companies that can see the potential of being located in a transport power centre with direct connections to the motorway and railway networks as well as access to sea transport from the airport area.
"There is a great deal of interest in having a logistically perfect location, and we expect to sign final agreements very soon with the first companies who see the advantage of being able to ship their products to customers throughout Europe,” Kornbo adds.
The idea behind the Airport Business Park:
In connection with digging the tunnel for the Øresund bridge and link to Sweden, an area of 420,000 sq.m. of reclaimed land was created. Buildings can be erected on about 220,000 sq.m. of this space. Copenhagen Airports A/S bought the land with a view to making its vision for the Airport Business Park come true: to create a major logistical business centre which would attract relevant companies. Only in one other place in the world – in Huntsville, Alabama – are the four modes of transport found at an airport in the form of a logistics business centre.
