Avoid excess baggage

Too much baggage can be an expensive affair, but passengers at Copenhagen Airport can now choose an easier and cheaper alternative by simply picking up the phone and ringing via a direct line.

The fee for excess baggage varies from one airline to another, just as baggage allowances depend on your type of ticket and your destination. Sterling and Maersk Air, for instance, charge DKK 40 per kilo over their permitted limit, whilst other airlines charge a percentage of the fare per kilo extra weight. SAS charges between 1% and 1.5% of the ticket price.

Generally speaking, passengers carrying too much baggage can easily end up paying several hundred or thousand kroner extra, which some passengers are not prepared to do.

A new alternative

Passengers now have the option of using a direct telephone line from Copenhagen Airport to call Trust, a forwarding company which offers to send excess baggage as cargo at a lower rate than the excess baggage fee.

The system is simple. The passenger provides information over the phone on the number and size of the baggage pieces to be sent, and Trust quotes the fee immediately. If the passenger accepts the fee, Trust will send an employee over to pick up the baggage immediately while the passenger fills in the necessary documentation. According to Trust, the whole thing can be done within 20-30 minutes. The excess baggage is then forwarded on the same airline the passenger is flying with, but as cargo on a later flight.

Assistance with customs documents

Trust also offers another service over its direct line. Arriving passengers with goods to declare can request assistance in preparing customs documents – without having to leave the airport .

The new free telephone line is available from phones mounted on a column in the hallway between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The line is open weekdays from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm and on weekends and holidays from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.
