Queue at the airport?

Compared with 50,000 passengers on an ordinary day, 70,000 represent an exceedingly busy one: that's peak season at Copenhagen Airport. But what can you expect at the airport if you have a trip coming up soon? And whom should you ask if you have questions about your trip?

Check-in: When do I have to be at the airport?

After you park your car or your train has arrived at the station under the airport, you're ready to check in. It is a good idea to contact your travel agency or airline to find out how early you should check in at the airport. It is the responsibility of the airlines to check in passengers and handle their baggage.

The airlines purchase this service from so-called "handling companies", of which there are three at Copenhagen Airport. The travel agencies, airlines and handling companies decide together when and how many check-in counters will be open for each flight.

Baggage: What should I expect?

Once you've checked in, the handling company also takes your baggage and ensures that it gets on the plane with you, but it is the baggage sorting system at Copenhagen Airport that sorts and screens the baggage. Currently, during peak season, almost twice the normal amount of baggage enters the system on a daily basis; it is not unusual to see 35,000 pieces of baggage checked in on a busy day. Normally, it all goes without a hitch.

Each time 100 pieces of baggage enter Copenhagen Airport's baggage system, 99.8 per cent of these bags are sorted correctly and sent to the right baggage handlers, making it one of the most reliable baggage sorting systems in Europe. Unfortunately, baggage system operations were somewhat irregular this past weekend, but normal function has been restored.

Security: Another queue?

Since it is the busy summer holiday season, there will normally be queues at the security checkpoints. We keep close track of how much time people have to queue at these checkpoints, and almost all passengers usually pass through security in less than five minutes. However, since the number of passengers at Copenhagen Airport is currently record-high, you may end up waiting a little longer at certain times of the day.
