Copenhagen Airport to get metro services in 2007

In just over three years, Copenhagen’s new metro will offer a direct service from the city centre to Copenhagen Airport’s Terminal 3.

The project has been given the political seal of approval and the new station will feature a unique design. What remains is the practical task of planning and subsequently building the station, scheduled to open in 2007.

Station located in parking house

The two tracks to the Metro station will be laid across the island of Amager, ending up at the top floor of the parking house already built to the west of the Hilton hotel and connecting to the end of the wing tip that is Terminal 3. From here, passengers can transfer from the Metro to Terminal 3 in minutes through the covered area.

The new station is designed by architects Vilhelm Lauritzen A/S. The Metro Company projects that 11,560 passengers will pass through the station at Copenhagen Airport every day in 2007, rising to 13,070 in 2010.

Four other stations will be built between Lergravsparken station on Amager – the end station on the current metro line – and the new Terminal 3 station. The location of these stations has been determined, but they have not been named yet.

Good infrastructure

It will take less than 20 minutes to reach the airport by metro from central Copenhagen. With the motorway, the Øresund Bridge and regional and intercity rail connections already established, the new station will consolidate Copenhagen Airport’s position as an airports with some of the best infrastructure facilities in the world.
