Copenhagen-Oslo is the most popular route
New figures from Copenhagen Airports A/S show that 605,269 passengers travelled between Copenhagen Airport and Oslo during the first six months of the year. This clearly makes the Copenhagen-Oslo route the busiest of the current 122 scheduled routs out of Copenhagen.
Oslo was followed by Stockholm Arlanda with 537,098 passengers in the first six months of the year. London Heathrow, Paris and Helsinki are next on the list.
Oslo, Stockholm and London were also in 2002 the three routes with the largest numbers of passengers. The most popular overseas route is Bangkok, which ranked no. 13 in H1 2003 with 145,144 passengers, and no. 11 in 2002. It was followed by Reykjavik and New York.
The reason for Oslo’s high ranking is – in addition to the strong ties between the two countries, not least business ties – that many Norwegians use Copenhagen as a transit airport to travel further out into the world, as fewer international routes go out of Oslo than out of Copenhagen.
Charter traffic
The most popular charter route is also one of the oldest, namely Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, where the sun shines most of the year, also during the winter.
Brian Faber, Marketing Manager of Star Tour, the largest tour operator in the Nordic region, says that the Canary Islands are popular all year round because of their sunny weather, also during the winter. Mediterranean weather can be rather cold and rainy most of the winter, but on Gran Canaria the temperature stays above 20 degrees during the winter.
