Scandinavian designers to open design exhibition at Copenhagen Airport
Designers Teemu Järvi (Finland), Ingegerd Raaman (Sweden) and Hans Sandgren Jakobsen (Denmark) will be presenting their design pieces tomorrow, when Copenhagen opens its second design exhibition.
From 15 August to 19 September, Copenhagen Airport will be focusing specially on Scandinavian design in its exhibition ‘Scandinavian Design – of Today’, which will feature designers who may be creating the design products and classical designer furniture of the future. Three of the designers featured at the exhibition, Teemu Järvi (Finland), Ingegerd Råman (Sweden) and Hans Sandgren Jakobsen (Denmark), will be attending the opening to present their work at the event.
Sampling Scandinavian design while waiting for the next flight
This is the second year that the design exhibition will be held at the airport, and organisers plan to make it an annual event.
”Half of the passengers at Copenhagen Airport are in transit. All they see of Denmark or maybe of Scandinavia is Copenhagen Airport, so we would like to give them a pleasant surprise while they wait, by showing them samples of Scandianvian design. The terminal areas make an excellent setting for that purpose,” says Anette Haugaard, vice president, Copenhagen Airports A/S.
Well-known architect partners at work
Architect partners Tom Lundberg and Stig Marvits have been asked to integrate modern Scandinavian design into the well-known surroundings of the airport. These two architects are known, among other things, for their interior design work for the shops in the street Niels Hemmingsensgade in the Copenhagen city centre. Their light colours have set the fashion for shop design, and they have had great success with their interior design in fashion shops and restaurants in Paris and London.
Free design magazine
The designers of the design products and furniture featured at the exhibition include Kasper Salto, Mads Odgård, Mikal Harrsen, Antti Kotilainen, Ole Sorø, Morten Rahbek Ernst, Peter Karpf, Jens Jacob Olesen, Lin Utzon, Nanna Ditzel, Morten Brorson and Ole Jensen.
Copenhagen Airport is publishing a magazine for the exhibition containing interviews with some of the designers featured and coverage of the design products and furniture that can be seen and purchased during the exhibition. The magazine is free and available at the airport.
Art and architecture year-round
Copenhagen Airport has also published a guide to its own art and architecture. The guide is available from the airport’s communications department or the airport service information desks. Available free of charge, the guide provides an overview of the art and architecture at the airport and contains a map showing the location of the various pieces as well as biographies of the artists and architects represented at the airport.
