Copenhagen Airports A/S sells preservation-worthy farmstead to the Amager Museum

The Amager Museum takes over the old farmstead Faders Minde from 1 March 2002. Copenhagen Airports A/S has been the owner of the farmstead until now and has used it as training facilities. In a decision to support local preservation projects, Copenhagen Airports A/S has decided to sell the farmstead to the museum and makes a contribution to the takeover in the form of a deed of gift which enables the museum to buy the farmstead.

Dirch Jansen, chairman of the board of the Amager Museum makes the following comments on the purchase of Faders Minde:

”We heard rumours that Copenhagen Airport was going to move its training activities to the Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal, and we therefore saw an opportunity to put in a bid for Faders Minde. The farmstead is ideally located relative to the other farmsteads of our museum, and the airport accepted the idea right away. Many old Amager farmsteads are sold to private buyers and are therefore not preserved in their original style, which we think is a pity. Faders Minde dates back to around 1900 and is intact in terms of style. The farmstead actually still looks as an operating farm. Following the takeover of Faders Minde, the Amager Museum will have tree carefully preserved farmsteads from the period. By taking over Faders Minde, we can help preserve yet another element of the history of Amager.”

Faders Minde will be used for administrative offices and workshops, and the lecture room is well-suited for cultural activities such as exhibitions. The museum will continue to make club premises available to the St. Magleby Civic Association at the farmstead.

Faders Minde will be conveyed to the Amager Museum on Tuesday, 18 February, at a ceremony to be attended by representatives of both Copenhagen Airports and the Amager Museum.
