Air Canada back at Copenhagen Airport with a non-stop service to Toronto
From 28 May 2003, it will again be possible to fly direct from Copenhagen to Toronto on Air Canada. The airline will operate the service using Boeing 767-300s, offering five weekly departures in the early part of the season and daily departures during the period from 23 June to 25 October. The flying time between the two destinations is 8½ hours. The direct service saves three hours. Air Canada has registered for the summer programme, meaning that they will initially operate the service until 25 October 2003.
Air Canada had a daily service on the same route from 2 May 1999 until the end of September 2001, but the service was suspended as a direct consequence of the events of 11 September 2001.
Gateway to the Scandinavian market
“Copenhagen is an important market for passengers as well as cargo to and from Canada, and market demand is not being met in the best possible way at the moment,” says Robert Atkinson, Air Canada’s General Passenger Sales Manager for the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Nordic Region. “This gives us an excellent opportunity to introduce a non-stop summer service between Toronto and Copenhagen, the gateway to Scandinavia.”
Merete Rønde, deputy director at Copenhagen Airports A/S and head of Airline Relations adds:
“We are very pleased that Air Canada has decided to return to Copenhagen Airport, especially considering the current difficult times for the aviation industry. Air Canada is the only North American airline represented at Copenhagen Airport, and thus also the only North American airline with scheduled services to Scandinavia. Their non-stop service to Copenhagen Airport will thus help strengthen our position as Scandinavia’s largest traffic hub and the gateway to Scandinavia.”
