South African Airways returns to Copenhagen Airport

South African Airways returns to Copenhagen Airport on 2 October 2002. The airline plans to start with three weekly flights: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The non-stop service between Copenhagen Airport and Johannesburg will be on Boeing 747 aircraft, and the flying time is estimated to be 11½ hours.

There are good connections from all of Scandinavia and quick and easy transfers in Johannesburg for all of South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland. Moreover, there is a direct service from Johannesburg to Mauritius.

About the collaboration between Copenhagen Airports A/S and South African Airways Maurice Schwer, South African Airways manager for Scandinavia, says:

"We are very pleased that the traffic growth and the potential in Scandinavia enable us to start up this service. And the travel time on this non-stop service will be attractive, especially to business people who travel often between these destinations. Copenhagen Airport is the logical gateway to and from Scandinavia, and many Scandinavian passengers prefer to travel via Copenhagen on long trips rather than to have stops in other European airports. Also, nightly delivery of goods and the immediate connections to South Africa’s neighbouring countries will be attractive to our cargo customers."

Merete Rønde, deputy director at Copenhagen Airports A/S and head of Airline Relations adds:

"It has been four years since South African Airways last offered flights out of Copenhagen. We are pleased that the airline has decided to resume its Johannesburg-Copenhagen service and hope that the service will attract a large number of passengers now that there is no stop in Frankfurt."
