Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal nominated for international property competition award

Copenhagen Airport will be participating in the international property fair MIPIM in March, hoping, among other things, to draw attention to its new property development division and to attract both Danish and foreign companies to the airport.

Each year at the fair, the MIPIM Committee presents a number of awards. This year, Copenhagen Airport’s Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal has been nominated for an award in the "Refurbished Office Buildings" category. Out of fifteen projects from all over the world in this category, three projects have been shortlisted for the award, one of which is our old terminal. The other two buildings are the Hotel de Ligne, Parlement de la Communaute Francaise in Wallonie, Brussels and L’Ellipse in Paris.

The winner of the MIPIM award will be announced on 14 March in Cannes, and the award will be conferred for the 12th consecutive year at a ceremony concluding the fair.

Danish award received last year

In November last year, Copenhagen Airport received a diploma from the Association for the Beautification of the Capital for its relocation and reconstruction of the Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal.

Built in 1939, the Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal was in use until 1960. The terminal was relocated in 1999, but the refurbishment of the building was not completed until this year. The relocation, which attracted a great deal of media attention, was included in The Guinness Book of Records as a European moving record; the total cost of re-establishing the terminal was DKK 100 million. Today, the building is used for administration staff offices, training, and state visits, and is also rented out for large banquets, receptions and the like.

Property development at Copenhagen Airports A/S

Copenhagen Airports A/S is currently developing two areas: One is the 400,000 sq.m. artificial peninsula in the Øresund. The peninsula has room for 200,000 sq.m. of distribution and cargo terminals as well as other facilities.

The other is the area to the east of the Hilton Copenhagen Airport, which is large enough for the construction of 55,000 sq.m. of office premises. To the west of the Hilton, Copenhagen Airports A/S is working on establishing a three- or four-star hotel with 200 rooms to open in the spring of 2004.
