Harrods opened today – completing The Atrium at Copenhagen Airport
A few hours ago, Copenhagen Airport A/S and a concessionaire, The Nuance Group, opened a new shopping concept, The Atrium. The opening of the 2700 sq.m. shopping mall was attended by representatives of Copenhagen Airports A/S, The Nuance Group and Harrods, which opens one of its delicatessen shops in Scandinavia.
A good airport to be in
In his speech at the opening, Niels Boserup, CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S said: "At Copenhagen Airport, 50% of our passengers are transfer passengers, and for this reason it is very important to offer passengers many different options when they are spending at the airport. We have been rated the world’s best airport several times, and one of the reasons is that passengers feel that Copenhagen Airport is a good airport to be in. And the new shopping mall – The Atrium – offers passengers additional experiences."
The only Harrods in Scandinavia
Peter Willasey, Communications Director of Harrods, added, among other things: "Harrods has 35 shops around the world, eleven of them at airports. But this Harrods is special. It is the first shop we open in a partnership with The Nuance Group, and it is the only Harrods in Scandinavia altogether. From the very beginning of our collaboration, we have been very impressed with the facilities at Copenhagen Airport, and we have been very well received by our partners. As in our other shops, this look to be a great success."
Size offers opportunities
Richard Jones, Sales & Marketing Director of The Nuance Groups, said among other things: "The Atrium project has been under way for eighteen months, and the concept was specially developed for Copenhagen Airport. The name is inspired by the centre atrium, through which daylight flows down into Harrods. As it is now, it is the largest single shopping area in any airport in Europe – maybe even in the world. Size is not necessarily important in itself, but it does create much better opportunities for such a shopping concept."
