Swedes get easier access to Copenhagen Airport
The number of Swedes travelling by car to Copenhagen Airport has increased since the opening of the Øresund Bridge, and the new rail service from Kalmar in southeast Sweden to Copenhagen will make it even more attractive for the Swedes to use Copenhagen Airport.
During many years, travellers from the southern part of Sweden have used Copenhagen Airport as their preferred airport. The opening of the Øresund Bridge has made it easier and more convenient for the Swedes to reach Copenhagen Airport by car, bus or train. Before the Øresund Bridge was opened, only very few Swedish passengers travelled by car to Copenhagen Airport, but 18 months after the opening of the bridge, Swedish cars represent 10 to 12% of the total capacity of 4,000 parking spaces in the airport’s international area.
New rail service
On 6 January 2002, a new direct rail service will be opened from Kalmar in south-east Sweden to Copenhagen via Copenhagen Airport. Trains will run eight times a day from both Kalmar and Copenhagen. The train will continue onwards to Elsinore, forming part of the Øresund rail system.
The new direct rail service between Kalmar and Copenhagen will provide quicker and easier access to Copenhagen Airport for people in southern Sweden. The transport time for the new direct link from Kalmar to Copenhagen Airport is four hours. The transport time by train from Kalmar to Stockholm for passengers travelling out of Arlanda Airport is approximately 90 minutes longer.
On Friday, 4 January at 1.10 pm, the first train will arrive at Copenhagen Airport from Kalmar with 200 Swedish guests. The airport will welcome the guests and the Swedish press at a small ceremony in Terminal 3. Naturally, all members of the press are welcome to attend the ceremony.
Additional information is available from the airport’s Communication Department on tel. +45 32 31 28 00.
